You may not know Bea Åkerlund, but you’ve definitely seen her work before. The fashion activist and costume designer has added her decadent touch to create some of the most memorable looks of our favorite stars. We’re talking Beyoncé‘s iconic Lemonade-yellow dress from the “Hold Up” video (as well as half of the clips from her eponymous visual album); Madonna‘s Mark-Antony-meets-Cleopatra-inspired ensemble for her 2012 Super Bowl Halftime Show; Katy Perry’s Katy Kat CoverGirl collection commercial (and her Harper’s Bazaar Icons NYFW performance that I got to witness first-hand ); and even Lady Gaga‘s eye-popping “Paparazzi” video.
But now the stylist is adding her signature blend of gothic glamor not to your wardrobe but everywhere else in your apartment with an exclusive Ikea collection that is not only Instagrammable but also brings a bit of the red carpet home with you. Called OMEDELBAR (which is “immediate” in Swedish), the collection features home accents and accessories, like a gilded clothing rack and valet stand to put your prettiest pieces on display as well as a Birkin-inspired lighting fixture, all designed to allow you to get imaginative with your interiors and transform your space into the decadent dressing room of your dreams.
“’B. WHO YOU ARE’ is about embracing yourself, no matter what the world thinks of you. It’s about individuality and creativity – two important cornerstones of OMEDELBAR,” she said of the collection in a press release.
While the collection hit shelves on February 14th — yup, while we were drowning in red hearts, lipstick, chocolate, and all things amoré — the great thing is that everything is very affordable. The most expensive pieces are the armchair, the ottoman, and the clothes rack, which are priced at $249 and $129, respectively. Not to mention that the collection is available for purchase at almost all locations, save for IKEA Grand Prairie or IKEA Jacksonville.
And as much as I want to snap up everything, regardless of the lack of room in my house, I decided to sift through everything to narrow down it down to a few favorites I’m planning to purchase before everything disappears. Read more to see what I’m adding to my shopping list.
You don’t need to be a magician to become spellbound by this top hat, which comes in both black and clear. I love how a fun vase can instantly add some whimsy to any space or surface. I could easily see this on a bookshelf, kitchen table, or coffee table filled with roses, preferably blood red ones.
While the top hat would look amazing with fresh flowers of any hue, I could totally see this vase serving as a stylish way to organize my makeup brushes.
Don’t let the shape fool you — this isn’t some tiny dish to fill with a few rings! This bowl is big enough to hold your entire jewelry box and then some, especially if you have a lot of costume pieces and statement necklaces.
I’d love to see the reactions I’d get serving cocktails in these tumblers! Though I’d porbably have to remind myself not to try and scrub these lipstick marks off.
A switch of something as simple and innocuous as a lamp shade and really spice up a space. And when said lampshade looks like something out of A Christmas Story, to me, you can consider it sold!
I’ve been a sucker for stripes since I was small, which you can totally blame on Tim Burton’s penchant for putting them in every movie (like Beetlejuice‘s iconic suit). While most of my windows are covered by headboard, I’d love to have these babies peeking out behind it.
Talk about a throwback! These fishnet canopies were the thing to have to drape around your bed for added opulence when I was in high school. While most of my friends had them in shades of pink, blue, and purple, I remember heading to Hot Topic to find one in black.
While I really fell in love with the face-in-silhouette design of the twin-sized duvet covers, you can’t really go wrong with basic black.
Apparently, Bea wears red lipstick all the time, even to sleep. Honestly, if I didn’t have to worry about smearing it as I rolled around throughout the night or acne, I’d probably do the same. And as a beauty writer, I would feel remiss to miss out on having a pillow like this that does all the talking when it comes to my aesthetic. It’s pretty much at the top of my shopping list already.
Cushion covers can be a real cash saver when you want to switch up a space without dolling out a lot of dough. Besides, the motivating message here is one I’d love to wake up to every morning.
