Everybody wants to party with Cardi, and there’s no surprise as to why! In her new “Bartier Cardi” video, which dropped Monday night, the rapper borrows a bit of vintage glamour (including the hazy look of old-school films) of from a slew of beauty icons. I was instantly mesmerized by how her glam squad channeled the likes of Betty Grable, thanks to the pale lingerie and throwback tresses that Tokyo Stylez created for the clip; Mae West, as she dabs on a bit of EOS lip balm before making out with her fiancé Offset in the backseat of a car; and even Lil Kim, who often called herself the rap Mae West.
But the look that has spread across social media like wild-fire features Cardi dripping in diamonds (all over her body, all over her body — sorry not sorry), red silk, and fur with a soft haze of reddish-pink shadow, lush lashes, and a matching pout, offering a sultrier take on Lily Collin‘s 2017 Golden Globes beauty that I’m sure every beauty YouTuber is trying to recreate as we speak.
Thankfully, should we decide to test-drive the decadent look ourselves, we don’t have to go far to get the list of supplies. Cardi’s makeup artist Erika La’Pearl took to Instagram mere days before the video dropped to gush over the gorgeous look. There, she revealed the brands that she used for the video, and I wanted to offer up a few product possibilities based on what La’Pearl has previously used.
According to the Instagram, she used Ofra Cosmetics foundation, most likely the Absolute Cover Silk Peptide formula that she also used on the star for the Grammy’s red carpet earlier this year. La’Pearl said that she contoured Cardi’s cheek with what is most likely Anastasia Beverly Hills’ palette and added a little bit of a flush and glow that probably came courtesy of the same Ofra On The Glow Palette that she also used on Grammy night as well as Anastasia’s Radiant Blush kit.
For the eyes, La’Pearl likely dusted the lighter nudes of Ofra’s Must Have Mattes palette before adding the soft pink and mauve at the corner of Cardi’s eye with BH Cosmetics’s Blushed Neutrals palette since it’s filled with rosy hues. After adding a feline flick with a little liquid liner, she added a strip or two of Lilly’s Lashes in Goddess, which the reality-star-turned-rapper has worn many times in the past. La’Pearl probably perfected the star’s pout with a blend of Ofra’s Nude Potion Liquid Lipstick — another makeup must from Grammy night — and Chanel’s Rouge Allure Ink in what looks like Libéré to ensure a vibrant, matte finish.
But aside from slipping into something sexy and sparkling for yourself (or for someone else), I think this rosy-toned makeup could easily pair well with a casual yet classic red gingham print or anything soft, pretty and pink in your closet that screams spring for a look that deserves a serious double take!
