#OnMyVanity: Aquis Quick-Dry Hair Towel

I receive a slew of samples, and when I find something I like, I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

When you have as much hair as I do, it takes forever for my strands to dry, especially when I regularly rock a top knot to keep my curls tight. The problem is that my hair is still damp once I let my hair down (even after a night’s sleep and a commute into the city), leaving my curls prone to stretching and breakage. A regular towel is fine enough when you’re about to heat style your strands into submission but can cause serious frizzing if you’re letting your locks air dry.

Things changed when I went into the city to check out Aquis during a press event. There I was treated to a blow-out after washing my hair and sweeping it into one of the brand’s hair towels. While I went from curly to straight, I got to chat with the brand’s co-founder, Suveen Sahib, who sought to find out why hair becomes so frizzy even before you style. “Curly hair is more fragile. The structure of the hair has 1.8 times more keratin than regular hair has,” he explained. “And what’s happening is the keratin starts to absorb the water [which causes the cuticle to swell and open], and after a while, it starts stretching until it breaks. That’s why it’s so vulnerable, that’s where the damage happens. The whole secret of having good hair how you deal with and dry your hair.”

The towel itself is crafted with AQUITEX that’s woven from ultra-fine fibers that soak up water faster by  absorbing it directly through the fabric, so it creates less friction than your average bath towel leading to less frizz, dryness, and damage. I saw the effects immediately at the event when I went from damp curls to full blow-out in under an hour, and when you’re average straightening session takes up to 90 minutes of work, that’s saying something!

After taking a towel home from the event, it immediately became one of my shower essentials. Aside from the fact that I could keep my hair wrapped up snugly without the weight of it causing it to slip like you normally would with a bath towel. By the time I’d slip into my PJs, my strands were primed for primping with a spray gel or mousse without the worry of product runoff (you know, when your hair’s so wet that whatever product you apply is practically rinsed off onto your skin—hello bacne!). It’s come to a point where Mom is dying to trade in her towel turban for my Aquis, but sorry, I don’t think that’s gonna happen anytime soon!

Available on Facebook.com for $45
