I receive a slew of samples, and when I find something I like, I can’t wait to tell you all about it!
Color correctors are the new product type du jour for 2016 as makeup mavens become more obsessed with the art of crafting a flawless face. These makeup musts are used to neutralize rather than cover up blemishes, sallowness, and dark circles and have become the trick up the sleeve of many who want that fresh-faced look without weighing down their skin with loads of layers to achieve it. But while most of the iterations are meant to be mixed with your complexion products, Hourglass took a more multifaceted approach with it’s new Ambient Light Correcting Primer.
As soon as I got my hands on a sample of Mood Light (a more pink-toned shade that delivers the most forgiving mood lighting), I was surprised that it looked nuder in person. The primer is not only meant to counteract contrasting hues, but it also softens the light to blur any imperfections and prep skin to hold onto any makeup applied over it. The brand says you can wear it alone, but that may be for those with lighter complexions than mine. Though my skin initially looked a little pasty upon initial application, I was delighted to see that I didn’t need to add any concealer to my look, as it erased my hyperpigmented acne scars and the dark circles under my eyes with just a medium coverage foundation. In fact, I only cropped the image above—no Photoshop needed here! This pumped up primer will likely be on hand for my next photo op and beyond.
