Jeremy Scott Mixes It Up With MAC

Photo: Courtesy of Mac Cosmetics via Fashionista.com

Curated Spotify playlists are the current go-to platform to share your music with friends and SO’s. But when I was a teen, your favorite tunes or just new music you needed to check out were shared in the form of burned CDs, complete with a Sharpie inscription. And prior to that, it was the classic cassette tape that held so many precious music memories (my dad actually wooed my mom with one.) No matter if you bumped them in your Discman on the way to school or in your parents car on the way to the mall, each had their own vibe — I mean, who else got a breakup mix CD from their bestie after getting dumped? (Just me? Ok.)

It’s the same feeling that Jeremy Scott channeled for his upcoming collaboration with MAC, which is slated to hit shelves February 8th, since music is always a part of his creative process. “In general when I’m sketching or musing about a collection or a musician who I am doing costumes for, music is always on and playing. I love how music can take a room and alter it,” he told Vogue, dropping the names of some his muses like RihannaKaty PerryNicki MinajMiley Cyrus, and Cardi B that populate his playlists.

Totally Diggin’ NARS’ Fall 2016 Collection

Fall-2016-Color-Collection-Campaign-Visual---double-page-w-logo---tif

Sure, we’ve all got vacation on the brain with the Fourth of July nearly here, but it never hurts to think ahead, as NARS is giving everyone a peek at what’s going to be chic for fall.

The sights of Studio 54 are alive and well with an array of natural tones to sculpt the cheekbones you wish you were born with, shimmering shadows in hues of white, rose gold, and rich indigo while the matte lip trend continues in classic, romantic shades of garnet and bordeaux. But the stand-outs are the eyeliners, which range from the bright white of Las Pozas to the smoky haze of Darklight, allowing disco darlings to go bold no matter which shade is selected. The new makeup musts will hit NARS boutiques and its eponymous site on July 15th before rolling out to other retailers in August—just in time for back-to-school season (these do count as school supplies, right?).

But I can’t get over the campaign that features model Aya Jones, who you’ve recently seen rocking Marc Jacobs’s Resort 2017 runway, channeling the pure glamor of the disco era in the new age with a sparkling neutral palette, gorgeously glowing skin, and a cool reverse cat-eye I can’t wait to try. Jones is the perfect face of the campaign, given the brand’s penchant for featuring an eclectic cast of muses and the model’s recent Vogue Spain cover. Plus she joins the ranks of Naomi Campbell, Charlotte Rampling, and Daphne Guinness, further diversifying the newsstands and ad spaces we’re all meant to share. Can you dig it?

What a Doll! Ariana Grande Teams Up with MAC Again

Ariana Grande’s indulging her inner moppet for her second stint with MAC.

The songstress shared a snap of herself on Thursday posing alongside the vibrant pink ad that features the star in full babydoll mode, complete with a giant pink bow, matching streaks of hair color, ruffled socks in platform Mary Janes and an array of doll furniture and fixtures.

The Viva Glam ambassador’s first foray for the MAC counter unleashed a dangerous woman in the form of a matte plum lipstick and sheer pink shimmer LipGlass. This time around, Grande’s “playing nice and charming” with a matte deep bubblegum lip color and a more neutral pink LipGlass that will hit shelves in September. As always, every penny of the proceeds will benefit the MAC AIDS Fund, which funds programs to assist those affected by HIV/AIDS.

Talk about sugar, spice, and everything nice!

#OnMyVanity: Hourglass Ambient Light Correcting Primer

omv-hourglass-primer-1

I receive a slew of samples, and when I find something I like, I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

Color correctors are the new product type du jour for 2016 as makeup mavens become more obsessed with the art of crafting a flawless face. These makeup musts are used to neutralize rather than cover up blemishes, sallowness, and dark circles and have become the trick up the sleeve of many who want that fresh-faced look without weighing down their skin with loads of layers to achieve it. But while most of the iterations are meant to be mixed with your complexion products, Hourglass took a more multifaceted approach with it’s new Ambient Light Correcting Primer.

Show Your Stash: Misti Michelle’s Makeup Musts, Muses & More

I know I’m not the only one curious about celebs and influencers’ favorite beauty buys as well as  who and what shape their view of beauty in the biz.

It’s a bit of a coincidence that it’s National Bestfriend Day, and I happen to be featuring one of my best beauty buds—and there are many more you’ll see soon. Misti of MistiMichelle.com (formerly Entertainista.com) has always had an eye for beauty whether it was rocking wildly colored tresses in high school or becoming a licensed esthetician herself, and like most of us, she got it from her mama! She’s channeled all of her know-how, her carefully curated closet, and appetite for entertainment into a beautiful blog where she regularly shares her favorite finds and media musts. After forming a strong bond, as well as her encouraging me to start my blog, I wanted to spread the love and get her take on all things beauty, including how her aesthetic has shifted, what’s her best beauty advice, and what products make her #BeautyLust list for 2016.

Misti’s ultimate beauty look

On her approach to beauty: My approach to beauty has changed so much over the last few years. Now that I’m in my mid-30s, my approach is less about the flashy, crazy trends and more about finding something that works for me. These days my beauty style is simple and classic. Most days it’s just a 5-product routine, as I’m just too lazy to do anything more; however, even when I go ‘all out,’ I don’t go for the crazy eyeshadows or lip colors. I tend to keep it all neutral.

On the beauty idols she grew up with: I didn’t really grow up with any beauty idols other than my mother; however, I do remember loving Cindy Crawford on MTV’s House of Style.”

On her first beauty buy: My mom sold Mary Kay all through my teens so I never really had to buy makeup. It wasn’t till I came to New York for the first time in 2000 that I was introduced to MAC. I couldn’t afford much but I did score Ruby Woo lipstick and I treasured it.”

On the best beauty advice she’s received: “Blend. Everyone from key MUA’s to my mom drilled blending into my head from the start. To this day, I live in fear of the dreaded foundation line.”

On her favorite tip to share: When I was trying my hand at modeling, one of the MUA’s on set told me that if I’m ever in a bind lipstick can double as a blush and to use mascara as an eyeliner.”

Her picks for the best beauty buy of 2016 (so far): “I have to say it’s a toss-up between Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream and OUAI’s Hair Oil. Both have become staples in my daily beauty routine.”

Pat McGrath’s Feeding Your Skin Fetish Once Again

PAT McGRATH LABS Skin Fetish 003 in Golden

Courtesy of Pat McGrath Labs

Calling Pat McGrath the Godmother of modern makeup is a bit of an understatement. Her hands have shaped endless beauty trends that we follow religiously, refined the cosmetic collections of brands like CoverGirl, Max Factor, and Dolce & Gabbana—all before launching her own line. Now her latest release soared off of shelves before the end of the first day of availability!

Named Skin Fetish 003, the sets feature an iridescent gel pigment in one of two shades (one for warm tones and one for cool), a buffer brush, as well as a dual-ended Shiny Stick. This magical stick comes with a beautifying balm that delivers a fresh, dewy glow while the highlighter on the other end accentuates the high points of the face (cheeks, nose, lips, and more) with a subtle dash of dazzle.

Makeup mavens got their first peek at the illuminated effect during the Valentino Fall 2016 show where models channeled the ethereal beauty of ballerinas. But we can easily see it on beach-bound beauties or festival season flower children and everyone in between!

But be forewarned; according to a statement from the makeup maestro, “Users may experience increased confidence, attraction to mirrors, and other side effects associated with supremely salacious skin.”

Check out the other shade below:

#OnMyVanity: Milk Lip + Cheek Tint

milk-lip-cheek-1

I receive a slew of samples, and when I find something I like, I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

Multiple sticks are nothing new these days, but they have increasingly become essentials for those who need to get glam on the go. And with the recent launch of Milk’s makeup line, I was curious to see what the hype was all about since it flew off the shelves faster than retailers could keep up with. So as soon as I spotted a few of the sticks on UrbanOutfitters.com, I immediately clicked “Add to Cart.” And once I got my hands on it, I shared my take on the stick on Snapchat.

Victoria Beckham Curates Color Cosmetics for Estée Lauder

Courtesy of Estée Lauder

Victoria Beckham’s added her touch on everything from denim to dresses and fragrance to nail polish, but color cosmetics marks the one sector everyone’s begged her for years to try her hand at…until now!

The multitasking mogul announced that she’s partnering with Estée Lauder for a limited edition makeup collection that will available this fall at select retailers. Given Beckham’s penchant for sultry, smoky eyes and shiny nude lips, a pretty palette filled with smoldering neutral shadows and sheer glosses are sure to be in store. Though most of the details of the collaboration are currently under wraps, Beckham sounds like she was excited about getting her hands dirty to make the collection as perfect as possible. “The whole process has been both inspiring and eye opening — from going back and revisiting the Estée Lauder archives to working on the product with the Estée team, this feels like the perfect makeup partnership for me and my brand,” Beckham said in a statement.

Beckham’s been building her beauty resume for some time. She initially partnered with her hubby to create complementary fragrances in 2007. While she built the foundation of her fashion empire, a beauty line was far from her mind. In 2013, the designer admitted she’d love to create her own cosmetics, starting with the perfect nude lip gloss. She got her chance last year by partnering with Nails Inc. on a selection of shades inspired by her Spring 2013 collection. “I have a strong eye and a strong opinion,” Beckham told Women’s Wear Daily at the time. “So, when the time is right, I would love to do [more] beauty [projects in the future].”

I know that Beckham will craft a chic collection that fashionistas will be sure to fawn over. I can’t wait to get a peek!

Rihanna Gets The Makeup Line We’ve All Been Waiting For

Rihanna's Instagram

Rihanna’s Instagram

After debuting furry footwear earlier this week, Rihanna is treading over familiar territory for her next venture: the makeup counter.

The songstress has just inked a deal with the Kendo branch of LVMH Moët Hennesy Louis Vuitton— it also owns Kat Von D Beauty and Marc Jacobs Beauty as well—for upwards of $10 million for her to craft a cosmetic collection that’s all her own. According to Racked, this announcement comes on the heels of rumors that she had trademarked the name Fenty Beauty last year, coined after her current collaboration with Puma.

Kendo CEO David Suliteanu couldn’t help but gush about the good news. “Fenty Beauty by Rihanna is a beauty rocket ship that will appeal to a huge and diverse global audience,” he told Women’s Wear Daily. “We are aiming for the stars.”

The new venture will likely end up charting its own path into another galaxy if Riri has anything to do with it. Aside from being a record-breaking recording artist, every collaboration she’s participated in from River Island to Puma to Manolo Blahnik set trends and sold out instantly. Plus her beauty background is rich with seven scents with Parlux inc. and four collections she curated with MAC back in 2013, including her ubiquitous Riri Woo lipstick that caused riots at merch tables during her Diamonds tour.

The line is expected to launch in 2017, so start saving your pennies now, kittens. This is going to be huge!
